Just wanted to say how delighted I am that you are just around the corner.. not only is the food absolutely gorgeous, and the restaurant physically beautiful, but you are all such fabulous people.. can't wait for my next visit!!

I notice you are open late - does that mean you would still be serving food (dinner/light supper) at around 10:30pm/11:00pm most nights?

Just a little note that we've recently taken possession of the apartment above The Commoner and plan to utilise some of the space for dining pending the appropriate thumbs-up from the council etc. The place needs a fair bit of work so it'll take a while. Stay tuned for updates...

Just loved the meal we had on Sunday August 19. Excellent service and spot on 'feed me' recommendations from our Swan Valley waiter, who should take this idea back to Perth - we need it! All of the food was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Loved the salt cod brandade, the duck livers the potato cake the whole fish etc. simply excellent. Antony

Jo, Matt, Davey et al, eat at The Commoner, it's fantastic, you'd really like it. My mum and aunty and daughter and my niece and her intended [and me] had lunch on Sunday and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tucker and the place and the people. Attendance should be compulsory.

I have been to The Commoner a number of times.. for my birthday, sunday roast with my mum & with my girlfriend. Each time was perfect. From Moscow Mule's with homemade ginger beer on my first visit (birthday), roast goat (which was fantastic) on my second to sampling the Roman style gnocci my girlfriend ordered on the third... The Commoner is on my list of places I will take my friends to dine for a long time yet! The wine selection is supurb might I add too...
Top night had by all.
Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service and quality wine.
And at a great price.

We recently celebrated our son's Christening at The Commoner with 30of our nearest and dearest. Everything was perfect....from the intimate surrounds scattered with rose petals...to the delicious and interesting culinary delights....and superb wines! Our friends were instantly won over, including the 'foodie' friends that know quality when they taste it! Jo and her team provided not only exceptional service but made everyone feel at home throughout the day. Thanks to all for such a memorable and special day.

Dropped in for Sunday lunch with a friend, yesterday after perusing the Age Good Food Guide and had one of my best Melbourne dining experiences ever. The food was fresh and delectable, the waitress knowledgeable, efficient, French and friendly and the place reeked of class. A wonderful gem in Fitzroy. I shall be back soon from bleak Canberra!
